TEN CARDINAL RULES OF MEDITATION.
Meditation is a simple thing.

It is so simple that you will enjoy and eventually even love it.

There are a few essential facts about meditation that you have to keep in mind, though.

  1. Meditation is NON-DOING. ( not DOING anything ). MEDITATION HAPPENS. ( different than in Sansar – where you have to DO something to make something happen. )
  2. Meditation should be in a somewhat hungry and somewhat tired state. Why? Because if you are too tired, you will fall asleep. And if you are not tired, you will start planning to do something. If you are starving, you will think of food, and if you are too full, you will fall asleep because digesting food requires a blood supply, which will be diverted to your stomach instead of your brain. I usually exercise, do yoga, run, etc., before meditating.
  3. Any comfortable posture is acceptable for meditating, but crossed leg position with overlapping palms ( right palm resting on the left ) is the best. The cross-legged position redirects the blood from the lower legs to the brain. But either way, your back has to be straight ( back support allowed ), as it helps the energy rise to higher chakras.
  4. Any comfortable clothing is fine Vs. Tight-fitting clothes.
  5. No animal products to be warm ( leather belt etc.); In meditation, our appointment will be with LIFE itself.
  6. A comfortable temperature setting is also preferred so the mind doesn’t find any reason to venture outward.
  7. A quiet corner without any distractions is essential for meditation to happen. Household members should know that you would prefer not to be disturbed for 15-20 min. Meditating in nature ( parks or, better yet, woods ) is one of the best places to meditate, if possible.
  8. Once the meditation starts, you have to become DEAD TO THE WORLD, as if you are not in this world anymore.
  9. Be in a happy mood by appreciating what you have Vs. Being unhappy with the problems you might be going through because the nature of consciousness is happiness ( Sat Chit Anand ).
  10. Meditation is a process of rising above and merging with the universal consciousness, so remaining submissive mode will help a lot for meditation to happen.
