Patanjali says – Likes ( raga ) and Dislikes ( dvesa ).

We run either way, whether we run towards the likes or away from dislikes.

This we understand.

But…

Why do we have likes and dislikes?

What creates them?

What is the basic process that generates likes and dislikes?

Once we understand this, we can eliminate likes and dislikes.

Our four-dimensional cage.

We have likes ( and dislikes ), but we were not born with them.

After all, we all had our first sip of Coke at some point.

That was our first experience with Coke.

That experience and all our other experiences are our interactions with different objects, people, and situations.

They become our memories.

Whether it is us or other objects, people, or situations we interact with, we are all three-dimensional “structures” interacting with each other in the fourth dimension of time.
And this defines our whole life.

Every experience leaves a memory on our chitta ( psyche ), which defines our further path.

So, we can say that all our likes and dislikes are due to our memories generated from our first, and then …

This is the deepest you can get to in a deep meditative state, where all forms get rejected and the formless existence surfaces as THE REALITY, and everything with form gets negated as a dream, if that.

Without having any likes or dislikes, the formless shunya state stays in an equanimous state without rejecting, attaching, or running after the sansar.

Without the mind, it has no opinions or judgments, only the pure joy of BEING.
