Ego is a twelve-headed serpent. – Quran.
Ego of knowing. ( Sansaric knowledge ).
Ego plays in a quantitative field, where things can be compared, competed with, won over or lost to, etc.
Transcendence from the Ego brings you to a qualitatively different field.
Mind won’t be able to understand this.
It just has to go, and then the experience happens.
Ego arising out of helping others.
Ego of DOING religious practices and thinking that you deserve heaven.
Ego of meditating and thinking that God has to appear. Ego of being in a better situation than others who are suffering worse.
Ego of expecting respect from others ( like Stuti mentioned ).
The ego thrives on comparisons ( duality ), so it only resides at the mind level—a seat of duality.
When one transcends the mind, the Ego loses its standing and collapses. The only true knowledge is the knowledge of the self. Only that can destroy the Ego.
Self-knowledge sets you free; all other knowledge binds you.
