Light brings out, and exposes duality.

Darkness brings uniformity and non-duality.

In light, we are all different; in darkness, we all are the same.

The inner space within us is dark.

And in that darkness, the light of knowledge will spark.

That’s where we should spend our time.

Even physically speaking, we have been exposed to a lot of light since the invention of light bulbs ( and more so after LED bulbs ).

Our days have become more and more extended and nights shorter.

This has created even more hurdles for spiritual sadhaks.

Buddha was enlightened at night, right before the last star left the skies.

Mahavir got enlightened in the dark, against the background of which the birth of KNOWLEDGE became the brightest light that spread worldwide.

Actual Jain Diwali is a celebration of that lamp of knowledge that lighted up in Mahavir, not worshipping of Laxmi ( money goddess ).

Krishna was born at night.

That’s why early morning (pre-dawn actually ) is most conducive for spiritual practice. ( Brahma Muhrat ), when your body and mind are still “ sleeping “ ( dormant ).

Light pollution is getting worse by the day.

It is difficult to find a dark place in the world where the Milky Way shines like zillions of diamonds ( which we saw in New Mexico – Gilla forest and in the deserts of Namibia. )

Light bugs population, which solely rely on their fluorescent light for mating, is getting affected by light pollution, along with so many nocturnal animals.
