Ego is a twelve-headed serpent.
– Quran.
There are many forms of Ego.
Some are very obvious – Ego of possessions – like money, houses, cars, etc.
But also –
Ego of having a name, fame, recognition, facebook clicks, etc,
Ego of knowing. ( Sansaric knowledge ).
Ego arising out of helping others.
Ego of DOING religious practices and thinking that you deserve heaven.
Ego of meditating and thinking that God has to appear.
Ego of being in a better situation than others who are suffering worse.
Ego of expecting respect from others.
The ego thrives on comparisons ( duality ).
That’s why it resides at the mind level only – a seat of duality.
When one transcends the mind, the Ego loses its standing and collapses.
The only true knowledge is the knowledge of the self.
Only that can destroy the Ego.
Self-knowledge sets you free; all other knowledges bind you.
Ego plays in a quantitative field, where things can be compared, competed with, won over or lost to, etc.
Transcendence from the Ego brings you to a qualitatively different field.
Mind won’t be able to understand this.
It just has to go, and then the experience happens.
